I chose Bob Ross as my favourite artist because of his distinct style, upbeat mindset, and method of instruction that emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of painting. Bob Ross is most recognized for his oil paintings of landscapes and natural settings. He used a wet-on-wet technique, layering oil paint on top of still-wet oil paint. Using a palette knife and a housepainting brush to create a complex landscape over the course of 30 minutes, he amazed his viewers with his effortless method. Ross grew up in Orlando, Florida, and began painting at an early age. Following his military service, he discovered the wet-on-wet method in a United Service Organisation club where his first painting class took place. Before hosting his own television program, "The Joy of Painting," which ran from 1983 to 1994 and became a cultural phenomenon by introducing millions of viewers to the world of oil painting, he worked as a commercial artist and art instructor in the early 1980s.
